What to Expect During Your First Wellness Visit

Scheduling your first wellness visit can feel like a big step — especially if you're not sure what to expect. We want to take the mystery out of it. Here's a step-by-step walkthrough of what happens before, during, and after your first visit with Desert Wellness Group.

Before the Visit

Step 1: Initial Consultation

Everything starts with a phone call or contact form submission. During this conversation, we'll:

  • Learn about your situation and needs
  • Explain our services and answer your questions
  • Determine if our non-medical wellness visits are the right fit
  • Discuss scheduling and package options

This consultation is completely free and comes with no obligation.

Step 2: Intake & Paperwork

If you decide to move forward, we'll complete a simple intake process that includes:

  • Basic demographic information
  • Emergency contacts
  • Wellness goals and any specific concerns
  • Consent forms and service agreements
  • Communication preferences for family updates

During the Visit

Your first visit is slightly longer than a typical check-in because we're establishing a baseline. Here's what our Certified Medical Assistant will do:

Arrival & Introduction

Our staff member will arrive at the scheduled time, introduce themselves, show identification, and verify your identity and emergency contacts. We want you to feel comfortable and safe from the very first moment.

Wellness Observation

Through friendly conversation and observation, we'll check on six key areas: safety and environment, mobility, medication awareness, nutrition and hydration, mood and cognitive awareness, and general wellness. This is all observational — no medical tests or procedures.

Home Safety Check

We'll take a look at the home environment — lighting, walkways, trip hazards, bathroom safety, and accessibility. Any concerns are noted for family communication.

Medication Reminders

If medications are due during the visit, we'll provide a friendly reminder. We never administer or handle medications — just a verbal prompt to help you stay on track.

Conversation & Connection

Beyond the checklist, our visits are about human connection. We take time to listen, engage, and make sure you feel heard and supported. Loneliness and isolation are real concerns, and a friendly face can make a big difference.

After the Visit

Once the visit is complete, here's what happens next:

  • Documentation: Our staff documents all observations from the visit
  • Family Communication: With your permission, we share a summary with designated family members so they know how you're doing
  • SOAP Notes: For 60 and 90-minute visits, detailed SOAP notes are available upon request
  • Escalation: If anything concerning was observed, we follow our protocol to notify family and recommend appropriate next steps

What We Don't Do

To set clear expectations, here's what our visits do not include:

  • No medical diagnosis or treatment
  • No medication administration
  • No assistance with bathing, dressing, or personal care
  • No vital sign monitoring or clinical assessments
  • No skilled nursing or therapy services

We're transparent about our scope because we believe clarity builds trust. If your needs go beyond what we offer, we'll help connect you with the right resources.
